Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is one of the major services which we offer. Our therapists work closely with patients to help them improve their movement potential and gain health.

What is Physical Therapy?

Your personal physical therapy begins with a comprehensive evaluation of functional limitations and areas of pain. Our team of expert physical therapists will design a treatment plan for children and adults based on your needs and goals. We take a team approach and will consult with your physician. Throughout your treatment, we will work hard to help you return to all normal functional activities. When you are ready for discharge, you will receive a personalized home exercise program to allow you to stay healthy and to further enhance your rehabilitation.

Cervical and lumbar pain can be devastating and cause whole body involvement if left untreated. The
Physical Therapists will perform a thorough evaluation of the full body and determine the cause of your
symptoms. An individualized program will be developed to include mobility, strength and balance
improve your recovery and limit your pain with daily activities.

Pain and weakness of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and/or hand can be debilitating to perform your daily
activities. Limitations can occur in joint and muscle mobility or muscle strength requiring the Physical
Therapist to perform a thorough evaluation. From the evaluation, we will be able to determine a patient
specific program targeting your individual needs, including but not limited to mobility training,
strengthening or other modalities to decrease your pain and improve the use of your arm again.

Pain and weakness of your hip, knee, ankle or foot can be incapacitating in your difficulty standing
walking needed throughout your day. Limitations can occur in joint and muscle mobility or muscle
strength requiring the Physical Therapist to perform a thorough evaluation. From the evaluation, we will
be able to determine a patient specific program targeting your individual needs, including but not
limited to mobility training, strengthening or other modalities to improve your pain and your ability to
perform your daily activities with less limitations.

Our Physical Therapists work with your surgeons to progress you back to performing your daily activities. We follow your protocol closely and stay in communication with your surgeon to ensure appropriate healing and loading of the tissues necessary for a successful recovery.

A neurological diagnosis can be intimidating. Whether you have suffered a stroke or have been
diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, or any other progressive neurological condition,
our Physical Therapists can perform an evaluation on your gait pattern, balance, tonicity, spasticity,
range of motion and strength. From this evaluation, the Physical Therapist will progress you through a
plan of care targeting your individual needs and improve your quality of life and less difficulties
performing your daily activities. Your therapist will also assist you in techniques/compensations to
maintain your independence.

Dizziness and vertigo can be significantly limiting your ability to perform the simplest activities. These
symptoms can include dizziness, vertigo, gaze instability, falls and imbalance. Secondary symptoms can
include fatigue, nausea, vomiting and your inability to concentrate. When these symptoms are left
unaddressed, they can cause emotional distress, depression and anxiety leading you to limit your daily

activities and turn to a more sedentary lifestyle. Our Physical Therapists will evaluate the cause of your
dizziness. Dizziness can occur from problems with your inner ear or the other balance centers which
keep us upright. Once the cause of your dizziness has been determined, you will go through an
individualized program targeting your current limitations to improve your symptoms and allow you to
perform your daily activities with less dizziness and vertigo.

Concussion is a traumatic brain injury that can cause lasting effects on brain tissue and change the chemical balance of the brain. Concussions can occur from falls, sports injuries, or motor vehicle accidents. Concussion may cause physical, cognitive, and behavioral symptoms and problems, both short-term and long-term. A Physical Therapist can assess symptoms to determine if a concussion is present and treat your injury by guiding you through a safe and personalized recovery program.

Jaw pain can impact your ability to chew, talk and swallow. Physical Therapists help people with TMD ease pain, regain normal jaw movement, and lessen daily stress on the jaw.

Cold laser therapy is also known as “soft laser therapy” is a medical treatment form which uses low-level
lasers to stimulate the damaged tissues, thereby enhancing the progress of healing and providing relief from pain and inflammation. The cold laser treatment has very good potential to ease chronic pain and inflammation due to its capability to penetrate the skin and soft tissue injuries.

Dry needling is used to treat pain and movement impairments. The Physical Therapist inserts a thin filiform needle into the skin to stimulate myofascial trigger points, muscles and connective tissues. Dry
Needling releases and inactivates the trigger points to improve pain, range of motion and muscle tension to help speed up the patient’s recovery.

Sometimes we add electrical stimulation or e-stim, an electrical current transferred through the dry needle that can help accelerate the pain-relief process.

Whether your child had an athletic injury, birth defect or repetitive pain, our physical therapists will be able to assist your child in a program targeting their mobility, strength and balance necessary for their age-appropriate activities. If your child is delayed in their growth milestones, we will assist you and your child to meet those milestones. We want your kids to be able to be kids again.

Many changes occur as we age, but balance/falls, dizziness, slowed walking speed and shuffling gait
pattern are not a normal aging process. Our Physical Therapists will assess your current limitations and
help you with a progressive treatment plan to address the above and decrease your risk of falling. Our
Physical Therapists are trained to dose exercise appropriately for our older adult population.

Chronic pain is a condition that occurs when the brain concludes there is a threat to a person's
well-being based on the many signals it receives from the body. This condition can and often does
occur independently of any actual body tissue damage (due to injury or illness), and beyond
normal tissue healing time. The causes of chronic pain vary widely. While any condition can lead to
chronic pain, there are certain medical conditions more likely to cause chronic pain. These include,
trauma/injury, diabetes, fibromyalgia, limb amputation, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, cancer, or
arthritis. With chronic pain, however, pain is created in the nervous system even after physical
tissues have healed. Chronic pain affects each person experiencing it differently. In some cases,
chronic pain can lead to decreased activity levels, job loss, or financial difficulties, as well as
anxiety, depression, and disability. Physical Therapists work together with patients who suffer
from chronic pain to lessen their pain and restore their activity to the highest possible levels. With
treatment, the adverse effects of chronic pain can be reduced.

Custom orthotics help more than your feet! Properly fitting, customized orthotics bring health and
healing to the whole body by balancing the musculoskeletal system.

Kinesiotaping uses a latex-free tape to your specific body region and in different ways depending on your needs for the tape. Kinesiotaping is used to help reduce pain, re-educate the neuromuscular system, increase circulation, optimize performance and prevent injuries.
